Sean's 1st Birthday

My little boy turned one yesterday!!! I can't believe how time flies.
We were planning on having a huge celebration in conjunction with my parent's annual Santa Party. Unfortunately Mother Nature didn't cooperate and the only people that made it to my parents house were Sean,Mark and I and my two sisters (and we all had overnight bags in case we got stuck there). We still had alot of fun celebrating Sean's b-day. Sean got a whole bunch of great gifts as you see below. He loved his Red Radio Flyer wagon and got rides all around the house!

Despite the snow(and lack of children) Santa still showed up at the party as usual. So Sean had a little one on one time with Santa.

He wasn't entirely thrilled by that idea.....
Eventually he warmed up to him but not enough to really sit on his lap. We'll save that for next year.

Oh and big news.......Sean took his first steps on his own last night. He had a huge cheering section and was walking back and forth from person to person. This is the first time that he's actually walked for any significant length with holding onto something. We were all very impressed!!!

Emmet Otter's Jugband Christmas

On Sunday I took my family to see the musical Emmit Otter's Jugband Christmas as part of their Christmas present. Emmit Otter's Jugband Christmas was originally a Jim Henson video that my sisters and I remember fondly from growing up. Not many people have heard of it and if you watch it now, its a little anti-climactic. The "special effects" are pretty low-tech but the story is very sweet. Sean was incredibly well behaved at the show. He was enthralled by the singing and dancing.

Lauren and Kristen's Visit

Lauren and Kristen both had the day off today and we all decided it would be a great day to come down and take Sean to the local Children's museum. The only problem was that this morning I woke to about an inch of water all throughout my basement!!! Poor Lauren, I called and woke her up at 7am begging her to come down a little earlier than planned. Cleaning up from a flood with a 1 yr old is not an easy task. So Lauren and Kristen came down early and while one of them played with Sean the other one and I worked on emptying the water out of our basement. It seemed like a never ending battle until Lauren and I were able to get the sump pump working again. Thanks Lauren and Kristen for all your help.....I would still be swimming now if it weren't for you two.
Here's what the basement looked like:

We did finally get to the children's museum..................

USS NH Holiday Party

Sean and I attended the USS New Hampshire holiday party today. We decorated cookies, got a visit from Santa and played with all the other kids. Sean was pretty good with Santa. This is our second time visitng Santa. The first, in the mall, didn't go so well. Sean was fine until I started to back away so they could take the picture. We managed to snap a decent picture in between the tears. Today was alot different. I didn't leave Sean on Santa's lap but he really warmed up to him. Maybe we just have to ease him into the idea of Santa. Maybe it helped that Santa gave him a gift this time, I don't know.....

Sean loves Peekaboo

I know this is a little dark but its sooo cute. Sean uses just about anything to play peekaboo with. I was folding laundry and all of a sudden the sheet became a game. The best part is that Sean pulls the sheet up over his head by himself and then waits for me to join the game.

Little Explorers

Every Wednesday Sean and I go to "Little Explorers" at Bellani Maternity in Warwick,RI http://www.bellanimaternity.com/ . Bellani is wonderful!! I started taking prenatal yoga there last summer and then joined a new moms group once Sean was born. Its been fantastic. They also have a wonderful store full of unique stuff that you can't find at Babies 'R' Us. I bought all of our cloth diapers there and so many other things.

Little Explorers is a gym class for crawling babies up through about 2 yrs. Lots of fun activities, stories, songs and best of all lots of other babies to play with.

Sleeping Problems

I've had the worst time trying to figure Sean out when it comes to sleep. He's so unpredictable. I feel like I have every sleep book out there and have tried all different methods for getting him to sleep. We've tried co-sleeping but that just leads to me not sleeping becuase he's so restless. We've tried letting him cry it out but I have so much trouble listening to him cry and even when I do make it through it doesn't seem to teach him how to soothe himself to sleep. I've tried middle of the road methods and anything else that I can think of. I honestly am out of ideas but desperately need some sleep. Suggestions are welcome!!!

Lauren spent the night last night and took these photos this morning. Sean doesn't yet understand the concept of Day Light Savings. We were up VERY early and then fell back to sleep mid morning.

Happy Halloween

For Sean's first Halloween we dressed him up as a Penguin. My mother bought the costume almost a year ago while I was pregnant and we were nervous that since I have such a big boy that he wouldn't fit into the costume. Luckily he fit just perfectly and was so adorable.

Sean is a little young to go out Trick or Treating, we're waiting for him to be able to talk first, so instead we went to my mother's elementary school to see all the little kids dressed up for their Halloween parade. Sean was a huge hit!!

Sean tried out his other costume options before the parade......

After the parade Sean helped Grammy finish up some of her work.
We had an alternate costume waiting in the wings just in case Sean was too big to be the penguin.
Its a bird, its a plane, its SUPER SEAN!!!!!!!!
